“Let us recall“ is a poetic and concentrated re-interpretation of one of the first end of the world films “The world, the flesh and the devil“ from 1959 / US. By re-visiting and re-assembling the love story in the film “Let us recall“ opens up a current view on this period of time – where racial segregation was quite an issue. Neither the man (Harry Belafonte) or the woman (Inger Stevens) had normal civil rights back then.
The Voice-over from nowadays talks to the protagonists in the film and encourages them to overcome the past. A cinematique essay about recalling history through fiction – seen as a document/ a mirror of a certain time. A Postcolonial and empowerment approach with text fragments of Franz Fanons “Black Skin, White Masks“.

„Let us recall“ ist eine poetische und konzentrierte Neuinterpretation eines der ersten Weltuntergangsfilme „The world, the flesh and the devil“ aus dem Jahr 1959 / USA. Indem „Let us recall“ die Liebesgeschichte im Film wieder aufgreift und neu zusammensetzt, eröffnet er einen aktuellen Blick auf diese Zeit, in der die Rassentrennung noch ein Thema war. Weder der Mann (Harry Belafonte) noch die Frau (Inger Stevens) hatten damals normale Bürgerrechte.
Das Voice-over von heute spricht zu den Protagonisten im Film und ermutigt sie, die Vergangenheit zu überwinden. Ein filmischer Essay über die Erinnerung an die Geschichte durch Fiktion – gesehen als Dokument/ Spiegel einer bestimmten Zeit. Ein postkolonialer und ermächtigender Ansatz mit Textfragmenten aus Franz Fanon`s „Schwarze Haut, weiße Masken“.
